Built From the Clinical Work Outward.

ABOUT UNTANGLED MIND

Untangled Mind, LLC operates across two connected areas of behavioral healthcare: direct clinical practice and clinical systems development. Untangled Mind Clinical provides specialized counseling services, while Untangled Mind Innovations develops frameworks, tools, training, and infrastructure designed to strengthen how behavioral healthcare is assessed, delivered, and implemented.

Both grew from the same question: how do we create greater continuity between what evidence tells us, what clinicians are taught, and what actually happens in the course of care?

Good Clinical Work Should Have Direction.

WHY UNTANGLED MIND EXISTS

Untangled Mind began with a simple conviction: effective behavioral healthcare should be intentional. Insight matters, but insight alone is not enough. Assessment should inform treatment. Treatment should have direction. Progress should be evaluated. And clinical decisions should change when the available information indicates that a different approach is needed.

That philosophy first took shape in direct clinical practice. Working with trauma and anxiety made clear that effective care requires both depth and structure: enough flexibility to respond to the complexity of the individual, and enough clinical discipline to prevent treatment from becoming an open-ended process without a defined purpose.

Over time, the same questions extended beyond individual treatment. How are clinicians taught to make those decisions? How is competency developed? How do organizations know whether evidence-based practices are being translated into everyday care? Untangled Mind grew from addressing those questions at the client level toward building systems that connect care, clinical decision-making, clinician development, and implementation.

FOUNDER & DEVELOPMENT

Piper Harris, LPC

Piper Harris is the founder of Untangled Mind and developer of the Untangled Mind Pathway™, a clinical framework that grew from her work as an integrative CBT clinician specializing in trauma and anxiety.

Her clinical approach has long emphasized intentional treatment: comprehensive assessment, clear treatment planning, evidence-based intervention, measurement of progress, and adjustment when the available clinical information indicates that care needs to change. That philosophy became the foundation for the Untangled Mind Pathway™ and, eventually, a broader examination of how behavioral healthcare systems support clinicians in delivering effective care.

As the work expanded, so did the focus. Questions that began at the level of individual treatment increasingly became questions about the profession itself: How are clinicians taught to translate evidence into practice? How is competency developed and evaluated? How can measurement meaningfully inform clinical decisions? And what infrastructure helps organizations connect all of these functions rather than managing them separately?

Today, Harris's work extends across direct clinical practice, measurement-based care, clinician education, clinical tool development, and the continued development of systems intended to strengthen the connection between what behavioral healthcare knows and how behavioral healthcare is practiced.

BEYOND THE THERAPY ROOM

From Clinical Practice to Clinical Infrastructure

The questions that shaped Untangled Mind increasingly extend beyond individual treatment. Improving behavioral healthcare also requires examining the systems surrounding care: how clinicians are trained, how outcomes are measured, how treatment decisions are supported, and how organizations evaluate whether their clinical models are producing meaningful results.

Untangled Mind is expanding that work through the continued development of the Pathway, Measurement-Based Care education and implementation, clinical decision-support tools, and Field Training Optimization. Each addresses a different part of the same problem: creating stronger connections between clinical knowledge, clinical practice, and measurable outcomes.

That progression is consistent with the philosophy already established on your counseling site: intentional, measurable, responsive treatment rather than care that drifts without direction.

Thinking Beyond the Treatment Room

WRITING & PERSPECTIVE

Clinical systems do not develop in isolation from the profession surrounding them. Piper writes about behavioral healthcare, clinical standards, therapist culture, professional accountability, and the assumptions that shape how mental health treatment is delivered.

Her Substack provides a space for a different kind of writing than the clinical education and client-facing material published through Untangled Mind: more exploratory, more critical, and willing to question established norms within the profession.

THE WORK CONTINUES

Better Systems Begin With Better Questions.

Untangled Mind began by asking how individual treatment could become more structured, measurable, and intentional. The work continues by asking the same questions at a larger scale: how clinicians develop competency, how organizations support effective practice, and how behavioral healthcare can better connect what it knows with what it does.
